Tyndall is Ireland’s largest research institute with over 350 personnel. Ref www.tyndall.ie. We have over 25 researchers working in the WSN space focusing on BEM, wearable/healthcare and environmental monitoring applications. Our goal is to provide a smart, cost-effective, reliable, miniaturized, adaptable, self-powered technology platform for adoption to WSN with intelligent, decision making, life enhancing and energy saving benefits. As part of the Institute’s strategic planning, the Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) research team has received significant funding from the EU (FP5, FP6), the Irish Higher Education Authority, and Enterprise Ireland which has facilitated the establishment of a strong multidisciplinary team in the area of sensor network development and deployment.

Our expertise is primarily in designing hardware for wireless sensor networks (WSN) levitra generique. Apart from over 10 years of experience and knowhow in this area we also have developed a WSN platform ('the Tyndall mote') that has been successfully deployed in over 40 technology applications. The key research skills which Tyndall has developed in the course of deploying these sensing platforms lie in the areas of sensor system integration, low power embedded system design and development (hardware and software), system miniaturization, RF system design and optimization and system deployment.

The key area of expertise within the Tyndall relevant to this proposal is in miniaturised wireless sensor system integration, developed within EU FET and national research programmes. This encompasses miniaturized and wearable wireless sensor system architecture design and development, Robust RF system design simulation test and prototype manufacture, Antenna design and development, 3-D micro-integration technologies, flex technology development, software for ad-hoc wireless sensor networks and issues relating to deployment scenarios and system evaluation and reliability analysis. A key application area focus for us is in the area of the development of Wearable sensing systems for fitness and health.

In Tyndall there also exists capabilities in the areas of sensor development, sensor packaging, silicon processing, microfluidics, microsystem packaging/integration, and are currently involved in a variety of Life Sciences-related projects focussing on development of sensing instrumentations, signal processing and simulation for different chemical and biochemical applications including the development and modelling of the phase-fluorimetric systems and different potentiostat-based systems. The Tyndall National Institute also has its own technology transfer office, with established track record of commercialising research through spin-off company set-ups and/or licensing deals.
